How It Works

How to Get Your Texas LTC

No classrooms, no waiting. Here’s exactly what the process looks like from sign-up to carrying legally.

01

Complete the Online Course

I have personally taken and vetted this online course as an option to take this course online. You will receive your LTC-104 certificate upon completion. This course takes about four hours and is broken down into 15-20 minute lessons. You can take it at your own pace, from anywhere.

02

Pass the Shooting Test and yes these tests vary in the student experience

After you pass the online course, you will be given instructions how to locate a certified Texas handgun instructor in your area. $40-50 is the average price for an assembly line shooting test with 10 students or more all firing at once and firing at commands on a megaphone. This is OK for students that are comfortable around handguns but not for beginners. You can get one on one instruction on the range for 100.00, it’s safer, less nerveracking and stressful and is ideal for newbies.

03

Submit DPS Application

Apply through the Texas DPS handgun licensing website, they will charge you 40.00 for the five-year license to carry in Texas. Upload your LTC-104 certificate, submit your application, and follow the instructions for the 10.00 fingerprinting. Once approved, your Texas License to Carry will be mailed to you. Still not comfortable carrying after getting licensed? Let me provide you with professional, real world carry guidance.

Attention: Ages 18 to 20

18-20 young adults can now get a license to carry in Texas

Texas adults ages 18–20 who are otherwise eligible may apply for an LTC following a federal court decision in Andrews v. McCraw (2022).

Why Most People Still Don’t Feel Comfortable Carrying

Many people complete the LTC process and still don’t feel ready to carry in everyday life. That’s because the course is designed to meet state requirements — not to build real-world comfort and decision-making. That’s the gap I help fill.

"Great class, very informative. I feel way more comfortable carrying after taking this class!!!"

— Albert Alvarez

During my years as a court bailiff and security officer, I worked closely with Judge
Ronald E. Kunz of the West Jordan Justice Court. After two years of working
alongside him, he wrote this letter of recommendation about my character and
work ethic.

"I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him to anyone who is in need of a hardworking, pleasant, skilled individual with impeccable integrity."
